Car Hire Tips

Hiring a car comes with a lot of perks. There are a few things to consider while hiring a car that will save you a lot of money as well as a lot of hassle. Consider them done before you rent a car to have great value for money and enjoy the road trip in the best manner.

Full in full out

Make sure that you get the fuel tank when you arrive to get the car that you have hired. This will allow traveling easily without the car running out of fuel on the way. Secondly, get the fuel tank full when you get the car back to the rental shop. This will save you the hassle of fuel issues and settlements which the owner might ask. Full tank in and full tank out settles the bill quite easily.

Get a child seat of your own

If you’re going on a road trip with your family for 10-14 days, you will have to pay $5-10 per day for the child seat. Calculating the total cost of those 14 days, it can be established that this would cost more than the cost of the seat itself. So better save money and bring a seat of your own.

Be careful and collect proofs

Some car hire companies try to make some extra bucks by saying that the car you have asked for is short and you can pay a little extra money for a car upgrade. It is recommended to be aware of such scams. While booking the car so signing the hire contract, get it in writing that any upgrade in case of a car shortage will be free and the company would be responsible for that.

Get a toll pass

Since car hires are either taken from the airports for road trips, it is recommended to take the rental toll pass to save money. You will be using the motorway a lot more than you do in normal days so save money by getting a toll pass rather than paying a lot of toll fee.

Don’t be late

When you come to collect the car, make sure that it has no damages or issues prior to being hired. Even if the owner guarantees that a small scratch or even a minor issue is his responsibility and you won’t be charged extra for it, be sure to trust your instinct to get the car changed or take pictures to keep as a proof in case if the car breaks down due to the prior issue.  Check the wheels to ensure that they are not inflated.

No upgrades until they are free
